{Let there be light}

This chandelier is so cool that it can work as a source of light as well as a piece of art (via Design*Sponge)

If anyone out there has ever met me or worked with me, you know that I am a lighting junkie. I am all about the lighting truly obsessed, NOTHING I mean NOTHING changes a room like lighting.

repetition is a great way to create drama and great light at the same time
a simple pendant light hanging in a hallway perfect example of form and function ( via barn light electric)

drum shades create a sense of softness in a kitchen setting, i love the crisscross barn wood detail on the island + soft drum lighting it's just off enough

great lighting makes a kitchen (via barn light electric)

globe lighting is a fashionable and effective way to create great lighting quickly and economically.
lighting on the ceiling is such a great decor fix in a drab kitchen, these fixtures complete the look
If you have ever been in a badly lit room, like in a restaurant or hair salon or dressing room. You know that bad lighting will make you and everything around you look like hell. BUT no one seems to be committed to good lighting. Most great designers get it, but everyone else who wants to live in a perfectly appointed home over looks this most important component of design... LIGHTING!

So here are my hard and fast rules to lighting your space like a pro:

1. Invest in proper lighting, like recessed or track on the ceiling, or fantastic pendant fixtures.
2. Put a really cool fixture above your kitchen/dining table and kitchen island. Make a statement!
3. Make sure you have great task lighting in the kitchen and the bathroom, where you need it!
4. Put every light on a dimmer.
5. Mix hot and cool light bulbs in each living space + narrow and wide spot lights.
6. Have narrow spot lights shine on accent pieces and artwork , like a foyer table or on a coffee table.
    Highlight your displays.
7. Invest in a pro to come and look at your lighting situation. Make a plan and implement it.
8. Shop online and at flea markets for great lighting fixtures and have them rewired and reuse.

repurposed lighting is a new way of recycling flea market finds, these grape wire baskets are lined with linen and electrified.
Lighting just like owning artwork separates good decor from great design.
Great lighting is the most underrated, under used design element. Get with it and turn on the lights!
